Our turn out includes choices of pasture with a group as well as paddock and private turn out. The covered arena features a combination of sand and rubber footing for a consistent work surface. We also have an outdoor arena and jumps are available for use.

Lessons

We offer lessons for all riding levels! Our primary focus is Dressage and Eventing but we do offer limited western lessons as well. Lessons are taught by one of our well qualified instructors and can be on a lesson horse or yours. Grand Oaks also frequently hosts clinics with top instructors from other facilities to allow our clients a well rounded set of learning opportunities.

Kim Thompson-Hoblit

Kim has been an avid Dressage enthusiast since her first lesson in the summer of 1980.  Coming from a western background the precision and challenge of Dressage had her hookes - so much so that after college she decided to enter an apprenticeship with Paul Kathen at Texover Farms.  After two years apprenticing, Kim continued to teach and train at Texover for another two years.  Since 1994 Kim has been exclusively in the Clear Lake / Friendswood / Alvin area, teaching, training and showing.

Some of Kim's Accomplishments include:

  • Over 20 years of experience in Dressage instruction
  • USDF "L" Graduate
  • Recipient of the Houston Dressage Societies Bushager Award
  • Intensive training with Debbie Bowman
  • Trained under the instruction of Olympic rider Hilda Gurney, Germany's Col. Von Ziegner, and also Marina Genn and Whit Watkins
  • Participated in the USDF Instructors Certification program
  • Selected to ride two years in a row in the Trainers Symposium, riding with Hannes Mueller and Alex Wortmann
  • Reserve Champion for 1st Level USDF Region 9 (ABIG) with her first horse Lindy

Ruth Mitchiner

Kim Thompson-Hoblit

Ruth is passionate about creating riders that not only look good but understand the why behind the technique.

Ruth's main focus is Eventing but she also played polo at Texas A&M and has experience in western riding. She has two bachelors degrees from Texas A&M - one in Animal Science and another in Agricultural Science with an emphasis in education.

Ruth's students have won local as well as national titles and she looks forward to working with the next generation of riders.

Some of Ruth's Accomplishments include:

  • Texas A&M Polo - Officer Multiple Years
  • Various year end awards with Brazos Association for Classical Horsemanship and Greater Houston Hunter Jumper Association

Ruth is primarily focused on her real estate career and young family at this time but you can still spot her around the barn and managing our social media and marketing.

Lesson Policies

Cancellation

Lessons must be cancelled 24 hours in advance or the student will be charged for that lesson. We frequently have others who are able to ride in those spots and without adequate notice we are unable to fill those spots. Repeated cancellations will be asked for pre-payment in order to book their lesson.

Proper Attire

Students must have a close toed shoe/boot with a heel and long pants on for their lesson. We do have a limited supply of helmets to borrow but encourage students to purchase their own within the first month of lessons. If a student forgets to wear appropriate clothing and cannot find anything in our limited supply of loaner items it will be treated as a last minute cancellation.

Sale Horses

CAUSE IM SHEIK - Maggie

Maggie is a 2013 AQHA mare that has been used in our lesson program both on the flat and over fences. She would prefer a flatwork only home but some occasional jumping would be OK - she loves to get out of the arena and go trail riding! Good set of halter bred papers would allow her to be a great mom as well.
